Braces in Omaha, NE

Straighter Teeth, a Healthy Bite, and a Smile You’ll Love!

Braces are the most common fixed appliance in orthodontics. They are made of brackets, bands, and wires, and apply pressure on your teeth to gradually move them into the correct position. Even if the teeth are properly aligned, the upper and lower jaws may not meet properly. In addition to straightening teeth, braces can also correct this misalignment to ensure a healthy, properly functioning bite.

At Braces Omaha, we make the braces experience fun and easy for kids and adults. If you or your child are ready to begin the braces journey, contact our office in Omaha, NE, today for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Stevens.

Types Of Braces We Offer

There are braces to fit every smile and budget. During your first visit with Dr. Stevens, we’ll talk about all of your options for braces and select the right one based on how you want your braces to look and your financial situation.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional braces are small brackets that are cemented to your teeth. Braces Omaha uses twin brackets, which are smaller and more comfortable than traditional metal brackets. These brackets are connected by a wire, which your orthodontist tightens periodically. This pressure gradually shifts your teeth and jaw into proper alignment. Metal braces are silver in color and are typically one of the least expensive options.

WildSmiles Braces®

Invented by our very own Dr. Stevens, WildSmiles Braces brings customization to your braces! With WildSmiles, patients can choose between 25 different bracket styles, including shapes from our Disney Collection, Signature Collection, and College Collection. We empower our patients to have fun with their braces and create a style as unique as they are! WildSmiles are American-made and offered by thousands of orthodontists.

Clear or Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are the same shape and size as traditional metal braces, except they are tooth-colored. These braces are made of clear monocrystalline/ceramic materials. Combined with clear bands, these braces blend in with your teeth for a more discreet appearance. Ceramic braces are great for teens and adults, because they require extra attention due to their size and fragility. Because of this extra care, ceramic braces are normally placed on the upper front teeth and traditional metal braces will be placed on most of the lower front teeth.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign®)

Invisalign uses virtually invisible aligners to straighten your smile. The aligners are fully removable and you can take them out to eat and brush your teeth. Because there are no fixed brackets or wires, there are no diet restrictions and you achieve a straighter smile without the look and feel of braces. You’ll receive a new custom aligner every 2 weeks that guides your teeth and bite into their proper positions.

Colored Braces

With colored braces, the metal brackets stay the same, but you can mix and match the color of the elastics that go around them. You are able to change your elastic colors at every appointment! Show your team spirit or create a rainbow in your mouth—we empower you to be creative!

What To Expect With Braces

At the beginning of your braces treatment, we will take 3D scans of your mouth. This means no more messy impressions! These images will allow us to see detailed scans of your teeth and their roots, as well as monitor your progress throughout treatment.

When you have your braces on, you will be able to carry on your regular routine like normal. Just make sure you avoid foods that could damage your brackets and wires, wear a mouth guard during sports, and practice excellent oral hygiene for a smooth and speedy braces journey.

Eating, Playing Sports, and Playing Musical Instruments With Braces

You can still do the things you love while achieving a straight smile! While wearing braces, you can still play musical instruments and sports. When you’re on the field or participating in any type of activity where dental trauma is a possibility, it’s a good idea to wear a mouth guard. Mouth guards protect your braces and teeth from damage, keeping your orthodontic treatment on track.

You can enjoy many foods while wearing braces, but there are some you should avoid because they could damage your brackets or wires. We’ve put together a list of what you should and should not eat with braces. Read about these and more on our Life With Braces page.

How Long Do I Have to Wear Braces?

The length of your orthodontic treatment will depend on the type and severity of orthodontic issues we are looking to fix. Some patients wear braces for a year, while others wear them for several years. During your first visit, we will provide you with a timeline of your treatment, as well as updates along the way. Remember that the time you invest in orthodontics now will benefit your smile for life!

How Often Do I Have to See My Orthodontist With Braces?

Dr. Stevens will provide you with a timeline of your braces treatment. You can expect to return to our office every 4–8 weeks to have your braces tightened. After each visit, you may experience mild pressure again as the teeth are guided further into proper alignment. Our team will walk you through every part of your braces journey so you know what to expect, what foods to avoid, and how to clean around your brackets and wires.

The Cost of Braces

The cost of braces is different for everyone. This cost is determined by the details of your dental insurance, the length of time needed to complete treatment, the type of braces you would like, and if you require any additional procedures. Schedule a free consultation to find out how much braces would cost for your or your child. You can learn more about the cost breakdown of braces on our Cost of Braces page.

"Hi, I'm Kaylee; I'm from Omaha, Nebraska, and I came to Braces Omaha to get braces. My top ones were really crooked – these two front ones right here were – and then my bottom teeth were a mess, so I had to get top and bottom braces to fix them. I was a little nervous to come here at first. Braces Omaha is really welcoming, and when I got here, they were really nice to me. I made a lot of friends with the staff. Dr. Stevens is really funny, and he has the best smile probably here. With my braces off, I feel really good about it. I love my smile, and I smile more in pictures now with them off. If I had a friend in Bellevue, I'd tell them to come to Braces Omaha to see Dr. Stevens."

"My name is Spencer. I’m from Carter Lake, Iowa, and I came to Braces Omaha to get braces. My overall experience has been great. Everybody is friendly here. They sat me down, told me [the] step-by-step process of what they’re doing, and it just made it a better experience instead of going right into it and not knowing what they’re doing. Dr. Stevens—he’s good. He's a good guy. He tells jokes. He’s funny. The team’s good. They are part of the reason why I like coming here because everyone's happy, smiling, they’re just great. It’s going to be exciting to have actually straight teeth, and be able to actually smile. If you live in Omaha or Bellevue and you need braces, you should come to Braces Omaha."

Frequently Asked Questions: Braces

How do I know if I need braces?

You or your child may need braces if you notice visibly crooked or crowded teeth, have difficulty flossing and brushing your teeth, bite your tongue frequently, or notice an improper bite when eating and chewing.

What are rubber bands for braces used for?

Rubber bands play a critical role in straightening your teeth and correcting your bite by applying additional force that repositions your jaw. We will show you how to wear your rubber bands, which brackets they go on, and provide you with extra bands as needed during checkups. You should wear your rubber bands for 24 hours a day and change them at least every 12 hours.

What is a good age to get braces?

It is recommended that a child visits an orthodontist around the age of 7. If orthodontic treatment is necessary, it’s better to start it early to correct dental issues quickly and prevent the need for future treatment. Some patients receive braces as early as age 6 or 7, while others get braces in the early teenage years. A great thing about braces is that there is no upper age limit! There are many adults who wear braces and achieve the same wonderfully straight results.

There is no average age for braces, only your right age for braces. You can find out when it’s the right time for your or your child’s braces by contacting our office for a consultation. You can also check out frequently asked questions regarding braces for kids and braces for adults at Braces Omaha.

Are braces painful?

Although every patient is different, most patients at Braces Omaha report little to no pain throughout the braces experience. When you first get your braces on, it’s normal to feel some pressure and discomfort. This means the brackets and wires have started working to align your teeth! This pressure may last for a few days to a week, but can be managed with ice or over-the-counter pain medication.
